Looking for a little Info about the FX1 & VX2100 Can't Post

Good Morning To All,

I have a question with the FX1 and the VX2100 when editing the footage.

Does anyone have any knowledge with regard to the capatability of the 2 cameras and the differences in the quality of each cameras output.

Will I notice differences in quality when different angles from the cameras are tied together during editing.

Color contrast, any dropout between the 2 cameras?

Thanks,

Michael

I never used either camera but from looking at the specs this is what I can guess.

VX2100 = SD standard definition format around 500+ lines of res, shoots natively in 4:3 mode but may have 16:9 anamorphic option. Shoots regular DV format and has a real good rating for low light, around 1 or 2 lux I think.

FX-1= will shoot SD, but natively shoots 1080i HDV, high definition video, which is an mpeg2 format of HD. Shoots natively 16:9, I'm not sure if you can set it to 4:3. Low light rating is around 5 lux.

From my understanding the mpeg2 HDV may induce artifacts and it needs a specialized editor. That being said, I heard reports that under normal or good lighting situations, the HDV shot and then downconverted to SD, looks better than native SD out of most cameras in the VX2100 range. At HDV, shooting at 1080i in theory gives you double the resolution of DV. The footage that is floating around the web, looks great to me. No it's not DVCPro HD, but it's better looking than DV, under most situations. My personal opinion is that it will be the standard that replaces DV, but not in the next year or two. Could you work with the two cameras, I'm sure you could, but it may depend on what, where and how you want to shoot.

Again, I've never used either camera, so this is just speculation.

I've been messing around with the new FX-1 for a bit now, and it's truly nothing short of AMAZING.

When editing, you can really tell a resolution difference if you're going to be using your video for output, which almost ALL video does.

I would say definantly go with the FX-1 over the VX2100.

The quality looks no different than an cameras used on the news, TLC, or MTV. seriously.

Also, if you want a good contact for getting this camera at a steal, let me know. I can hook you up with a deal.
