Mics? Can't Post

I need suggestions for a wireless mic setup for the VX2100. Also, for a camcorder mic.

As for on-camera, the Sennheiser ME66/K6 seems a popular choice. I've an AKG PR81 wireless unit that I like a lot, too.

jfc0054,

In order to give this kind of advice, it would help if we knew:
1. What are you planning to use your VX2100 for?
2. What is your budget for the things that you are wanting to buy?

There is a good review of three popular shotgun mics here:
http://www.kenstone.net/...ew_shotgun_mics.html

Audio-Technica has since come out with another shotgun which is in the same price range: The AT897, which I believe compares favorably to the Sennheisers in the article above. I believe it goes for around $270 at B&H. All of these shotgun mics use XLR connectors with balanced cables. So with these you must use an adapter box/cable, in order to connect them to your VX2100. You also must have a shock mount to mount them to your camera (I believe the Azden is the only one that comes with a suitable mount that will fit into the camera's shoe).

If you are looking for something less costly, the Sennheiser MKE300 (around $170) has a built-in shoe mount, and a cable with a mini-plug that will plug right into your VX2100's ext. mic input. The audio quality will not be in the same league as the shotguns mentioned above, but it's fine for ambient sound.

I've used a number of wireless mic systems with my VX1000 & VX2000, including a low-end Azden (not very good), high-end Sony (much better audio quality) and Lectrosonics 100 Series (by far the best, in terms of range & quality). The receiver is not diversity, but I've never (or only very rarely) experienced any dropouts. The transmitter is 100mw.

I generally use a TRAM lav mic with the Lectro system; another good ENG/EFP mic is the handheld EV635A --good for doing interviews and such.

Hopes this helps a little.
