MiniDV tape transfered on diff. player/recorder Can't Post

Has any one experienced trying to use a tape recorded on DV camera and transferred it to the computer on another type of camera. I have a VX2100 and do not want to put any unnecessary hours on the camera and was wondering if I purchased a cheaper Sony dv camera with firewire if it would transfer with out any problem, and would there be a lose of quality in the transfer. I know that I could buy a dedicated miniDV player except for the $$$.

Thanks

Brett

I've tried to different lower-end camcorders , one panasonic one jvc, to transfer vx2100 footage and neither would work 100%. Either severe dropouts or wouldn't play the image at all.
Maybe an old vx1000/2000 would work.
You might could do a sneaky thing and go to best buy and pop in a tape there to see if any of the cams would play.

...can't say for the VX 2100. But that's what I've been doing for years with a VX2000 and a TRV 18. ...been working great for me with both SP and LP.

I have heard it can be more problematic if using LP mode, but I haven't had a problem.
