New User of Video Camera with questions Can't Post

Hi All,

I just bought a DSR-PDX10 and have a few questions. First I should introduce myself. I'm a songwriter/composer with my own studio and decided with some extra money I'd like to be able to do some digital work. I've only had the camera for a week but I'm excited to get into doing a lot with it. I use Sonar for my music editing and composing and I'm not too sure of what I should be using for Digital Video editing. I used the pixela program Sony gives you for download the video to my PC but I'm not too sure that this is the right program to use.

What I want to do is to download to video to my PC and then do some video editing and syncing of my music to the video and then having the ability of saving the entire sound/video to DVD (High Quality). However it seems as though Pixela is saving a low resolution image of what I recorded. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks,
Steve Lewis

You are dead right. Pixela is terrible and you should avoid using it at all costs.

If you are using a PC, I suggest Adobe Premiere

or if you use a mac, Final Cut Express/Pro.......or once again you could opt for Premiere as I do.

I am a Sony Vegas user and very happy with the results I get with it, and enjoy the workflow.

Went and got Adobe Premier and it seems to work just fine now. However I must say that I also got an IEEE Firewire board which helped with the transfer of the data as well.

Thanks for your input.

What is nice about Sony Vegas is how easy it is to edit to the beat of a song. You lay the song you want to use on the timeline. As it plays, you hit the "m" key to drop markers wherever you like in the song, such as the first beat of every measure. Makes editing to the beat of the music super easy.

Now that I have the firewire interface I'll give Vegas a try again and see how it works. It seems as though it is a good program. Are you doing music Video's? I'm looking for people that want to work with me. I'm in the Monmouth County area of New Jersey.

Thanks,
Steve

FWIW, this is pretty common across NLE's. I've done it in Vegas, PPro, and FCP. PPro uses the */8 key (on the 10-key section of the k/b) for sequence markers by default. FCP is configured by default to use the "m" and "~" keys.

I have never done a music video. Just weddings.
