PD-170 audio Can't Post

Hi all.
For some reason I rarely get very many responses from my posts. But maybe today.

I own a Sony PD-170 and when I hook up two separate wireless systems into both inputs (1&2) I only get one channel in each side, (input 1 on the left and input 2 on the right). Is there a way that i can record both channels in stereo (input 1 L&R stereo and input 2 L&R stereo)? What am I doing wrong?
The systems are both stereo with stereo XLR connections.

If you look up the word "vague" in the dictionary it says. "refer to Sony manual".

Thanks,
Kevin Nisbet

I'd ask the same question on the wedding forum. Gets much more traffic.

You cannot record to both channels to the same track when you have separate input. They will show up as "left" and "right" channels in your editing system. You can then mix them together or merge them. If you are wanting to record "stereo" on both mics then you would have to have 4 different audio channels (left and right for each input) and the camera can't do that. You may want to look at getting a small mixer/recorder of some sort if you are planning on that.

Re: [Postal_Boy] PD-170 audio [In reply to] Can't Post

I am having a problem also with my PD170. I have a shotgun hooked up to input 1 and my wireless hooked up to input 2 and everything set up in menu correctly (I thought!) but for some reason I can only get the sound from input 1. When I disconnect the shotgun and hook up the wireless to input 1 I can hear the wireless but not the shotgun. So my question is why am I only getting sound from input 1? Sorry for the newbie, stupid question! Cool

Hmm...make sure you have the manual switches set up correctly (set the switch in channel 1 I believe...I don't have my camera with me). If you put it on channel 1/2 then one input feeds both channels.

Do you hear sound out of both sides (left and right) when you set this up? If so, then one input is feeding both channels.
