PD170 and VX2100 Can't Post

I just taped a wedding on a PD170 and played it back on a VX2100 and had a few video drops as I was capturing. PD170 was recorded in DV not DV cam. Is it necessary to play back in the PD170 to avoid drops.

Thanks for the help

Julian

No the tape should play alright in either camera if shot in DV not DVCAM. But there might have actually been dropouts on tape.
Have you reviewed the footage on the PD170 itself? Or even tried captuing the PD170 tape from the PD170 instead of VX2100?

Dropouts could be several things, from computer driven (processes running in background or software driven), to camera assembly driven (dirty tape heads in camera or faulty fw cable etc.)

The first step would be to see if the tape is fine, then take it from there.

I actually use a separate deck to capture my tapes from and have never had a problem.

I have a PD150 and I am getting pixelation for like the first five minutes? Even if I use another camera to import the footage.
I am also losing the timecode on import and Final Cut keeps abortingUnsure

Any suggestions?

That's typical...I see it all the time. I've read that it's because the pinch rollers are worn or something. Now, when using old rental cams, after changing tapes I let the camera roll for a couple of minutes shooting garbage, just in case.

It's a good excuse to kill time making faces at your camera....

I used to have that problem. Someone told me to capture with the computer speakers off. Oddly, no dropouts with the speakers off. Not sure why, but it worked.

All of my VX2000's are showing similar traits. I've been pre-taping the first 5 minutes before recording important stuff. But I can't just let it stay that way. Maybe one day the drop-outs will go on for 10 minutes and I'll be screwed. So I've just started rotating the cameras out for service. I've also heard it's roller problem. I'm sending them to a place in Massachusetts that Joel recommended.

Anyone else also have a super-sensitive menu wheel? All of mine are doing the same thing. Makes it kinda difficult to make a selection.
