You might want to search the forum on this - I know there has been a bunch of discussion. I have a PD170 and have not used a light up to this point... I am, however considering getting one! Good luck

I use the PAG C6 Light system form PAG UK.
I have teh entire package from the light unit, 2-extra battery packs, Softlight and Diffuser Kit (Snaps onto the barn doors of the light, 2-Light bulb holders (to change out wattage on the fly).

Whats great amount this unit is that the light is fully focusable, runs cool, as the light itself is amde form a tough polymer shell that stays fairly cool.
The battereies (which I mount on the back of my DVRig) will run for about 5-8 hours each, depending on bulb wattage used (10-30 watt), and best of all the PAG gives spectacular, even, and diffused light distribution, that create natural even shadows.

I am giving this link to you to show how I use my PAGC6 with my VX2100/PD170 with the PAG Orbitor (I have a DVRig Pro, which PAG, who use to sell the unit for DVTech, stole the design from, but is almost exactly identical).

There are those here, who use this light (Sony HVL-20DW2) that runs on the same batery as the VX/PD/FX/Z1 cameras.

I preffer a unit like the PAG or Frezzi Mini Fill, as the light source is evenly distributed to eliminate harsh shadows like that from the Sony HVL-20DW2.

I use the Sony 10w/20w light. It uses the same batteries as the camera which makes it even more attractive.

Julie,
Do you find that when you attach your lumiquest softbox cover, do you always have to run at a 20w setting? Does it still light up the subjects enough at a reception?

Hi Russel

DV Video likes soft wide lighting. So get yourself something like the Cool-Lux head with a low 35w lamp and a shoulder battery.

or

you can go with VidLed LED light and its all self contained. Best throw is less then 6 ft with the PD-170 on 0db. The tiny battery will last 3 hours continuious.
