I'm having the exact same problem in Sydney, Australia with my VX 1000.
I've contacted Sony Australia who tell me that this camera I bought in 1996 was sourced from the U.K. and (a) does not receive DV in at all and (b)although the Vaio detects it, the camera software may not be compatible...and that's why I can't capture it.
Having been told by the Sony salesman this would work, I'm NOT impressed. Luckily, I've got a newer Sony digital which will transfer to the Vaio for me.
: I did play a tape when I tried to dump to the computer. The computer program said "no input". I read another post that said some VAIO computers have problems with the 1000. Hope I didn't get a bad combination. Thanks for responding. Other suggestions?
