Unfortunately, it's inherent in the format size, which with video, (generally being a physically smaller format: 1/4" chip smaller than 1/3" chip, which is smaller than 16mm, which is smaller than 35mm, which is smaller than 4"x5", etc,) means you tend to get greater depth of field whether you want it or not.
DOF does have a subjective component, but for purposes of your question, it is basically irrelevant. Until they start making chips 2"x3" (wouldn't that be nice!) you're SOL. Just slap on those ND/s, open wide, zoom to the long end of the lens, and that's it!
