SONY PD-170 OWNERS: BE WARE! HUM PROBLEM AGAIN !!! Can't Post

SONY PD-170 OWNERS - BE WARE

Have any of use noticeD a slight hum / buzz coming from your LCD screen in your PD-170? Believe it or not, Sony goofed again on the sound issue with some PD-170s. The LCD screen when open will produce a slight hum/buzzing sound in some units. Not all of them have it.

This buzzing/hum sound is because of the poor insulation of the circuitry inside the LCD screen which cause to emmit this faint hum/buzz. And this buzzing/hum does get recorded in the tape !!!!!

Not all units have it. And the units that have the problem, show this problem as intermittent. Depending on the position of the LCD screen, the sound may or may not be heard. This sound could get worse in the long run.

To see if you have the problem, using headphones, listen to the sound with the LCD in the close position. Then open the LCD and listen to the sound. Change the position of the LCD screen and again listen to the sound. Repeat this procedure a few times with the LCD screen placed in different positions. Close the LCD screen sometimes to differentiate the sound in the close and open position because the problem is not present when the LCD screen is closed.

The buzzing/humming sound was not acceptable to me and I shipped my brand new PD-170 to Sony in Georgia. Sony is acknowledging the problem and provided a fix for it free of course by double insulating the LCD electronics.
However, it took me to ship my PD-170 twice to Sony before it could get fixed. They are paying for the shipping both ways.

When you do the test, do it in a quiet room.

Re: [VIDY] SONY PD-170 OWNERS: BE WARE! HUM PROBLEM AGAIN !!! [In reply to] Can't Post

I bought my unit only one month ago, so I do not quite believe this is only happening with the first shipment. I would encourage everyone to do a test with your unit, even if you bought it yesterday !!!!!!!!!!!

Also, about the serial numbers affected, I contacted Sony and they said they really have no way determining which serial number units are the ones affected. I would say at this point that pretty much anyone could end up with a unit with this audio problem. SONY DOES IT AGAIN !!!
