Should Windows ME automatically recognize my VX 1000? Can't Post

I recently purchased a Compaq with a built-in 1394 port. Windows ME recognizes the 1394 controller. When I start up the computer with my VX1000 turned on and in VTR mode Windows sees it as a device, but a driver is not installed. The camera is listed as a "AV/C Subunit" but there is no driver so my MGI Video Wave III software does not recognize the camera as a video capture device. I have forced a search for a new device driver and searched my Windows ME and my VideoWave III CD-ROMs and come up with nothing.
I have also searched the web high and low for a device driver (either VX1000 specific or generic) and cannot find anything.
Ideas?
