New camera VX2100e. Going through manual - would reallly appreciate it if somebody could give me a novices explanation of shutter speed and why I should use it.

Shutter speed: how long the "shutter" is open for each frame taken. 1/60 means 1/60 of a second, times 2 (2 fields...one is taken every 1/30 of a second, thus giving 30 full frames per second). Reasons for chaning? In very bright situations, you can lower the shutter speed (make the lower number bigger because it is a fraction), which will reduce the light coming in. Raising it too high can increase the "stutter" in the frame because there is less time for motion blur. You can drop the shutter speed to 1/30, 1/15, etc. if there is little light and want a better exposure, as this allows the camera to let the CCD charge longer between frames. This creates a "stobe" effect, with a lot of motion blur and strobe-like effects.
