Sony PD-150 and SP-DV Can't Post

>>> *PD150: According to Sony, when recording in DV (SP mode only), you may not be able to get clean, seamless recording. In order to acheive a more reliable and higher quality image, Sony recommends using the DVCAM cassette and recording in DVCAM mode.<<<
Why does the direction of use of the PD-150 dissuade from using DV? If I buy the PD-150 I would casual like to alternate the DV-tape between the PD-150 and PC-100, therefore I would have to use the DV-mode.
In which case I would not get a clean recording, which problems would occour?
Thx, Reinhard

The only problem will happens when you use a DV tape to record in DV format in the frist part, then you continue using the same tape to record in the second part but in DVCAM format.
My PD150 record both DV and DVCAM in no problem.

If you alternate between DV and DVCAM using the same tape you will get glitches in between. However, recording in one mode will produce excellent glitch-free pictures.
Hope this helps

Re: Sony PD-150 and SP-DV [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi,
From various reading in magazines and press releases I gleaned some info on the DVCAM format. One of the least mentioned differences between DVCAM and DV is the signal to noise ratio, with DVCAM being slightly better. (we're talking less than 3 db difference). This, in addition to a wider track (i.e. 15 micron pitch) allows for a more durable format for linear-editing. Note that these are the main reasons why DVCAM is often used by low budget news org's and TV broadcasters.
