Sony mini dv excellence worth it? Can't Post

I'm getting ready to order some mini dv tapes in bulk on-line for my trv-900 (tapestockonline.com, great prices on sony, etc. and no I don't work for them). I've always used the premium reds and blues (dvm-60 prl in blue and dv-60 prl in red) and have had great success with them. Drop outs are almost non-existent and I've made it a point to always use only sony tapes in the trv-900. My question is, should I upgrade to the 'excellence' series, the dvm-60ex and dvm-60exml? It's more than twice the cost (almost three times) and just want to know what others have experienced with the upgrade. Is there a visually noticeable difference in color or clarity? Are there any definitive tests that show this increase in quality that anyone knows of? If it's noticeable change I might head in that direction, otherwise I'll stick with the blues and reds. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

There is absolutly no difference in the recorded image. DIgital info is either there or not, there are no degrees of quality. Both are the high end of DV tape. The Premium tapes will serve you very well.
BTW that cam need a complete manual cleaning occasionally to keep it trouble free.

Thanks for the feedback Bob A, that's good to know. I suspected as much and it's good to have it confirmed. I'll stick with the premiums from here on out. I'll also definitely remember the cleaning tip on the trv, it's probably due since the zoom is hesitating a bit when I zoom in. Is it best to send back to Sony for the cleaning? Thanks again man.

The cleaning will only prevent a tape crinkling problem that the 900 cam has when the tape path gets a buildup of crud.
