VIDEO DEPOSITIONS QUESTIONS

First, let me thank everyone who ever contributed a post on this site Your questions, answers and input has been invaluable. On a scale of 1-10, I went from 0 - 7 in knowledge about Legal Depositions Videography in a few hours. Thank you. BUT, there is a lot of conflicting information that I was hoping to get some feedback on. Yes, I plan on getting The Legal Video Specialist Business Kit. However helpful this will be, I have no doubt there will even be more suggestions to confuse the novice. So, here goes. I am in a part of Florida where competition will not be fierce. I own a SONY VX2000. A lt of people mentioned how great that camera is for this. OTHERS have mentioned that MINI-DV is a no-go and it is best to use a VHS camcorder. WHO IS RIGHT? The SONY VX200 does not offer a TIME / DATE STAMP option, so it was suggested to buy te CREST TDG-2001 ($233.00) BUT THEN I READ that Lawyers want the tape straight-a-way, so what good is the TDG? The $$$ is beter spent buying a VHS camcorder on E-BAY (Geez, are there eally any out there anymore?) Reading aout AUDIO and MICROPHONES was both a blessing and a nightmare. Everyone had different ideas. No doubt, everyone would like to own a set of WIRESS MICROPHONES, but then I read that WIRED ones were more reliable. I then read that with 2-6 people in a room who are not used to wearing mircophones on their clothes, it makes more sense to just get some regular microphones from Radio Shack. I then read about buying a TABLE TOP PZM Mircophone which will pick up everyone in the room. These are some of the microphones I read about: SHURE SM 83 SENNHEISER EW112 ($500.00) SENNHEISER AKG PR40 ($380.00) SENNHEISER AKG C417 ($219.00 for WIRED with XLR adapter) SNNHEISER MKE-2 ($347.00 for WIRED with XLR adapter) SONY VWP-C1 SONY EZM 44 ($370.00 for microphone, transmitter, receiver, etc) SONY ECM-T140 ($50.00) SONY ECM-77 ($165. for WIRED microphone only. Needs a UCI or UI adapter) AZDEN --- $72.50 (for microphone and transmitter) AZDEN WIRELESS SYSTEM ($149.00 --- WOW! What a deal! How come?) SHURE WL-93 ($70.00 for microphone only) NADY (This was mentioned briefly in THE LOW BUDGET VIDEO BIBLE) So .... WIRELESS (which mikes, transmitters, receiver, mixer) .... WIRED (which mikes and mixer) ..... TABLE TOP PZM? Any suggestions for a MIXER would be greatly appreciated. WHO IS RIGHT? THEN I READ about using LIGHTS. Holy smokes! What kind of lighting kit? I have one, but I don't want a lawyer's office to look like a movie set! Someone suggested using the ARRI SOFTBANK ($1,700!) Any ideas on something cheaper? A BACKDROP? For what reason? How big? Where would I get that? A MONITOR? OK, fine. I'll dop that. Would one of those small TVs with a built-in VCR work? That seems like it would work, especially since it will allow me to make a back-up VHS copy at the same time. Has anyone done this? Oh, and then I read about using a CD-R burner for a back up. Anyone doing this? Making a back-up AUDIO CASSETTE for the Court Reporter certainly makes sense. BUT, which one? How is that attached? Directly to the camera or to the MIXER? No one really mentioned what sort of INSURANCE they have. It seems like carrying all that equipment around is worth protecting. Also, is there some sort of Professioanl Liability Insurance to protect us incase we screw up and the lawyers want to sue us, etc. Does anyone have the attonrey sign a sontract or get a deposit BEFORE the shoot, as we all like and hope to do with other video projects? THANKS IN ADVANCE TO ANYONE who takes the time to answer these questions and offer adice. You're great! C
