VX-1000 sound problem with K6/ME66 Can't Post

I have a sound problem with teh VX-1000. Basically, under certain circumstances, the camcorder 'mutes' the incomming single when it records to tape (ie, doesn't record sound), even though it shows up on the meters and sounds thru the headphones.
I have K6/ME66 going thru a interface box of my design. It simply takes the 'hot' and 'ground' of the output of K6 and runs them thru some resistors (to drop levels) into the mini-jack of the VX-1000. I'm only connecting to the right channel, leaving left floating. Has anyone experienced this problem?
My investigating suggests overloading input levels, causing some kind of internal safety muting, is interacting with not having connected to the left channel.

I have the same set up but am using a Studio One XLR Box - No problems at all.
