: Hi all, : I just acquired a VX1000 (PAL) after a long search (lots of NTSC ones out there, not many PAL it seems). : I had read about the problems getting the VX1000 to work with XP, so made sure that all my PCs were completely up to date with all the Service Packs, updates etc. : I tried using the camera with my Sony Vaio laptop, using the firewire port. With a demo version of Pinnacle 8, I could control the VX1000 transport, but couldn't get an image - capture screen blank with an error message). With Windows Movie Maker, I can get an image but it looks as though it is crudely interlaced (alternating horizontal blocks of image, like two combs interlocking). : However... with MovieShaker, which came with the Vaio pre-loaded, the image is fine... the problem is, I can't capture it to a useful file- MovieShaker saves to its own file type and doesn't seem to allow you to capture as an .avi or .mpg file. : So... it seems as though the laptop is perfectly capable of communicating with the camera - but the software seems to have a problem. : Sony is clearly aware of this: : ---------------------------------------------------------- : IQ Knowledge Base Article ID 80556 : : The digital camcorder or digital VCR is unable to import or export video or still images to the computer through the i.LINK® port using the Microsoft® Windows® Me, 2000 or XP operating system. : : SOLUTION: : Sony has been made aware of a compatibility issue between digital camcorders and digital VCRs exporting video and audio to computers running the Microsoft® Windows® Me, 2000 and XP operating systems. There is no resolution available for this issue. : ------------------------------------------------ : So does anyone know a workaround? Anyone running XP successfully with a VX1000 using firewire? Any softare that works? : If not, anybody able to get the VX1000 to work using another method? If I can't get the data on to the laptop for editing, there is little point in having the camera... : I am utterly astonished that Sony have not found a way to fix such an obviously serious problem! Thanks for bringing this problem up again. I did have this problem and did all the suggestions and still could not make Window XP recognize it. It is still bothered me how could it work it others and not with mine anyone out there know anything to make it works please let us know. Please help. thanks
