VX1000 Video Problem Can't Post

Out on a shoot yesterday with a tripod, doing a pan and all of a sudden the picture went black. At the time I thought it was the viewfinder, so I continued to shoot. Five minutes later, after walking a bit with the camera, the picture came back and was good for the rest of the day.
Upon return to the edit suite, the rest of the camera works fine, but no picture in the viewfinder, no video on the outputs (DV, RCA or SVHS). Audio is fine. Also on playback, the play function will intermittently freeze and then start playing again - with no picture.
Any suggestions...anybody with similar problems and hopefully easy fixes?

Re: [Paul6_3333] VX1000 Video Problem [In reply to] Can't Post

Hallo Paul!

I think it can be a contact problem! I have repaired on of my VX1000´s after the cam came ínto contact with salt water during a sailing trip.
And I can tell you there are a LOT contacts all over the cam. They are using very small
"white metal" contacts, no gold contacts!
If you remove the right hand plastic cover you can see a drawing how the cards are contacted to each other. Every computer technician or TV tech should be able to deassable and reassemble the cards to "clean" away the oxidation.
Do not forget the VX 1000 is now over 8 years old - so pollution is a problem!

Good luck - and keep in mind SONY will not sell any sparepart to third companies.
Sony want to repair the DV Cams by them self - to make even MORE money with us.....

Actually Sony does sell Spare parts at this web site:

http://servicesales.sel.sony.com/web/index.jsp

You need the part number to check availabilty, and price.

Re: [downandoutVM] VX1000 Video Problem [In reply to] Can't Post

I had one of our employees take it apart and I think he reseated the board/card/etc.
I wish I could be of more help. It works fine now, the only problem is that the AC
adapter will not work with the camera anymore. Very strange.
Good luck!

He said he opened the case...and there was only one ribbon cable that he could get at.
He reseated that cable and closed up the case. From that point on, no problems, other
than the camera not working now with the AC adapter.
