VX1000 image quality issue... Can't Post

I bought a very used VX1000 a few months ago, and have enjoyed shooting a lot of airport ramp footage with it. Recently did a comparison with video shot on my older JVC 1 chip GR-DVR120 (or something like that), and the differences I found with the 3 chip VX1000 was almost not noticeable. The image quality with the VX was not a whole lot better than the JVC 1 chip.
Is there some tweeking with the VX I should do to improve the image?? Are the optics perhaps dirty? I've done white balancing, and run a cleaning tape, but the quality is still less than I had anticipated with a 3 chip camera.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

The greatest differences betyween 1 and 3 chip cams shows up when the conditions are crappy. In bright light the pictures form both can be very similar. When the light gets low or there is high contrast, back lighting, wide range of bright colors etc. the difference become quite obvious

Colors in lower light tend to be more accurate with a 3 chip camcorder as well. My 1 chippers get "gray-ish" and no amount of color correction can really help since the 1 chipper just doesn't capture the color information. At least with the 3 chippers you are getting distinct color readings instead of "gray".
