VX2000 Error msg. Can't Post

Hi there,
Anyone experienced a stoppage on tape with a message flashing in the screen of:

C:31,22 or C:31,23 ?????????

A buddy of mine had this recently. The message was displayed underneath the remaining tape countdown clock and once activated he could no longer record. The tape eject icon was also flashing. My guess it was due to the tape not loading correctly onto the recording spool but we were underwater at the time and therefore couldn't change out the tape.

Any feedback appreciated,

Mark.

The clue is in your posting

"...........but we were underwater at the time"

It's a moisture/condensation error related code. Try thoroughlt drying out the camera by lightly blowing dry with a hair dryer.

Hi Rick,
There was no humidity Icon displayed. The camera was bone dry when we got out. We placed another tape in the camera and it worked fine. I believe it may be something to do with the tape not being correctly wound onto the spool but we are still puzzled about the C:31,23 message.

Still puzzled.
Mark.

P.S Thanks for the response though. Any more thoughts.

Had same problem last week. I was using sony dv tape, tried another sony tape same problem tried another brand Panasonic and the problem went away Pheww. I used a sony head cleaner tape and one of the sony tapes started to work once, I was able to rewind itand it would play with drop outs. I have use jvc and sony tape in the camera before. I just happen to have a pansonic as a spare.I even went as far as pulling out my extended warranty paper work. good luck

CODE C:31:22 Symptom/State T reel fault
CODE C:31:22 Symptom/State S reel fault

Correction: Load the tape again, and perform operations from the beginning.

Trying different brands of DV stock does not solve your problem. If this problem continues you could have a tension problem. Replacement of the S & T reel tables will solve your problem.

Re: [redexit] VX2000 Error msg. [In reply to] Can't Post

Here is what I've noticed:

My tapes (Sony brand) will hang up and I'll get that message EVERYTIME I leave a tape sitting in the camera for an extended period of time. i.e. more than a day or so.

I originally wondered if it was a tension problem. But I don't think so. Because, but I've found that simply removing my tapes after each shoot solves the problem. What's more, once a tape has gotten stuck, it will leave a visible line (shiny spot) on the tape. So I've been thinking it is a lubrication build up or something. But even a professional cleaning didn't fix the problem.

Once this has happened to a tape, it will continue to happen at that same spot. I can manually wind the tape past that point and get things working again in a pinch. But if I rewind the tape it will usually get stuck again at the same place. Sometimes it will stick during rewind, sometimes not. But it will always stop when playing or recording.

It's almost as though the camera has recorded a message on the tape that says "stop and display error message now". One exception to this is if I'm doing a capture to my NLE. Then the camera will play through the bad spot. So the error can be over-ridden. Go figure...

Obviously I've been dealing with this for some time. But the simple practice of removing tapes during down-time is an easy enough fix.

However, I'm encouraged by the previous report that switching to Panasonic tapes solved the problem. I'd been thinking for some time I'd do just that when I got to the right moment to make a global switch to a new brand.

Doesn't Panasonic use a dry lube on their tapes, where Sony is using a wet lube?

What are S & T reel tables? How are they replaced? I am getting same error codes on DCR-PC120BT. Typo on previous post as actual CODE C:31:23 (not C:31:22 again) is the "S reel fault" according to http://www.digiservice.co.uk/index.html
