VX2000 Life; VX2K vs GL-1 Can't Post

Has anyone come across a figure for the expected "wearout" lifetime (mechanical failure not included) of the Sony VX2000 in typical "wedding" service"? Primarily, I am looking for some info. on the number of hours of video head life, or any other factors that can help me work up an amortization cost of this camera per job.
Also, does anyone feel that they can reason a justification for the $300-400 additional price for the VX2000 over the price of the Canon GL-1? I have read that the VX2K is better in low light, but is that all?
(BTW I also posted this question today over on the "Wedding" forum, but later decided that it might fit better over here - apologies to the moderator for the double post!)
Thx/Steve Jones

the vx2k and gl-1 both are new. it's hard to determine it's life span when both spicies have been around only almost an year.

The GL1 is over two years old.

I would think wearout would primarily be mechanical failure (?). But I don't have a number for you. I can tell you the Sony TRV900 service manual lists tape transport cleaning and service checkpoint items up through 5000 (five thousand) hours of head use. I don't know if that's wishful thinking, or not. My TRV900 is only at about 500 hours right now, and still going.
Having just edited together a 3-camera shoot using TRV900, GL1 and VX2000 cameras, I can tell you I like the VX2000 image best- it is cleaner looking; the GL1 image is adjustable but it's either "oversharpened" or fuzzy looking, to my eye (as expected given its lower intrinsic resolution.) This is viewed on a monitor; on an average TV or on VHS dubs the difference is probably less apparent. Also the VX2000 has no equal in its price range in low light environments, which I gather is important for wedding & reception.
Give a thought to the Sony PD150, which is sold by Sony Pro division and actually warrantied for professional use, unlike the VX2000.

I agree with John that VX2K is worth the extra money over the GL-1. It uses newer technology that allows the camera to have good performance in low light conditions. Besides the regular accessories, I would add another mic.

These cameras tend to become obsolete long before they wear out.

Boink, you're a goddamned idiot. The press release for the GL1 is dated July 1999, it's March 2001, so maybe I should have said "a year and 8 months". Why don't you go "Boink" yourself, sh*t head.
