VX2000 record button malfunction Can't Post

I have been having a very strange problem. If i brush, or push the record button, when in standby mode, sometimes the camera appears to just shut off, then come back on. sometimes it goes to blue then back to picture.

anyone else have this problem?

can anyone recommend somewhere in LA to take it to get it fixed (other than sony).

I had the same problem about 3 weeks ago in my first full directorial debut wedding. My vx-2000 had the same problems as yours. It was a good thing it got serious only at the reception.

Basically, the rec-play button at the side would go off and on. And at times, if even if I mildly touch the lever around the red button, it would shut off and then on. The black plastic it is mounted on creaked as if it was loose. I tried removing the screws but decided not to pursue it further when I found it hard to remove the covering. I had 2 weddings for April 9 and 16 respectively, and did not want to aggravate the situation. I just waited for the Holy week to be over and would take it to Sony for repairs.

The day before I took it, I decided to give it another try. But this time, I decided to spray the area with WD-40 (on the side of the black mound meets the silver body, and where the red button is on. But did NOT spray not on the button itself). I don't know what got into me, but I did it. Guess, what? The plastic seemed to have "shrunk." There was no more creaking sound. And it didn't shut itself off and on anymore no matter what I did. I really tried pushing the black plastic around, and the lever, to see if it would shut off or on. It didn't shut off or had problems anymore.

I don't expect you to believe me. But this fix worked for me. Saved me money and time. I did this last Monday, and it's Friday now and it still fixed.

Oh, I know it's April 1 now, but trust me, I am not joking here. This is my fix for this camera.

Caterpiller,

Thanks for the reply. I took the battery out for five minutes, then i hit the 'reset' button. I think that may have fixed the problem. Also, there is a secondary record button on top of your camera right behind the lense. may use that if the problem comes back.

be careful with WD-40, it's not a lubricant, it's like drano, it will eat rust, afraid of what it will do to plastic.

cheers,

I am having similar problem on a PD 150. After shooting for from 30 minutes to 2-3 hours, camera will go into standby mode WHILE SHOOTING. At first I thought it was me, but it is the camera. I immediately hit the record button and the camera resumed rolling. Also, if taking a lot of short shots, i.e., turning camera off and on a lot, the camera goes into standby and shows a blue screen for a few seconds, then resumes taping. Occasionally instead of going to blue screen, it goes black for a few seconds, but the camera never turns off. Does anyone have any experience/answers to this?
