I recently bought a VX2000 as replacement of my VX1000. Living and working in New Zealand, both are PAL models. I read in a USA video magazine that the VX2000 comes with a Carl Zeiss lens. However, my VX2000 came with a Sony Video Lens. Was the article wrong or could it be that the VX2000 is being sold in the USA with a Carl Zeiss lens, and elsewhere with a Sony lens? There are a few disappointments with the accessories. The VX1000 came with a separate battery charger, but not the VX2000, where recharging has to be done with the battery attached to the camera. Being a prosumer model, most users would need a separate charger, so as not to "occupy" the camera. Also, for an expensive prosumer model it seems rather stingy of Sony to have the smallest possible battery and memory stick as standard accessories. Another disappointment was the fact that the "intelligent shoe" is back to front, compared with e.g. the Sony TRV9E. This means that I cannot use one of my Sony video lights. Checking with the local Sony shop, I became aware that intelligent shoes vary in different models, some "normal', others "back to front". Very strange! But all is not negative, of course. The VX2000 is a wonderful piece of equipment. For instance, I was impressed with the quality of the photographs taken with the memory stick. I could get excellent results up to A4 size (21 x 29 cm), using my Epson 2000P photo printer. This is a handy feature, as I can take photographs during shooting sessions which I can then use for video box covers, as well as titles. Finally, I am pleased that the VX1000 user group is now a VX1000 and Vx2000 user group.
