VX2100 problems Can't Post

My VX2100 has been acting up lately. A few weeks ago I didn't have any new tapes handy and I popped in a used one. Since then, it seems that everything I record has glitches in the image, indicative of a dirty recording head. I used a Panasonic DV dry cleaning tape (10 sec play) thinking that would solve the problem, but I still get pixilated images mainly when panning or cuts between shots. In the last 3 weeks I've tried the tape cleaning once before each event, but the one I did last night has the problem for about the first 15 minutes. The interesting thing is that the last half seems quite clean, so I'm a little confused.

I've been reading several posts on this forum for cleaning suggestions, but I have tried all these. I found an edit shop close by and they told me that they use the alcohol and cotton swab technique, but that makes me a little nervous. Unsure Does anyone have any suggestions or know of a reputable (and inexpensive) service shop in the Denton (TX) area?

Thanks for any help.Smile

WHAT? A cotton swab? NEVER, NEVER, NEVER!!!!!!!!!!! The cotton threads can be picked up the heads. Use a chamios stick. Have you mixed tapes?
Varnish would then be the culprit due to different lubricants.

Lastly, you could have bad heads.

I wouldn't even recommend a chamois. Sony has a micro-fiber wiping clothes that will work much better and will also be better for the heads. It's designed for dv and is recommended as a service tool in the service manuals. The part number is: 7-741-900-53, it runs about $8. It's good sized so it can be cut for multiple uses. Make sure you use only
isopropyl alcohol also.
