: Hi, I just want to say this forum is great! Thanks! i usually read this group but i'm so aggrevated with salesmen right now...... i have to type and ask these questions............I'm wanting to purchase a VX2000 for my 'local' town station... Our SVHS panasonic AG455 puffed its last breath. So in understanding that much, purchasing and redoing my studio to convert to DV (mini) is a big step but i think it would be good for the town and especially they are asking for it. But ther is a limited budget (as always).. Anyways..In calling around to literally 6+ 'places' for pricing and quotes etc...and engineering questions at these places they have obviously sold me their products but it all seems so confusing..Why would a couple places try to sell me a SONY DSR20 RECORDER when it's doesn't go with the VX2000(mini)??? I didn't find this out until someone was explaining it to me..the last salesman...This salesman was telling me to choose the JVCminiDV BRDV600 or the SRVS10U which converts the mini to SVHS.. because my editing is still linear SVHS ..plus i can have playback output of this deck to the TV... ..... : I am also looking into nonlinear editing system.. I was also told the ifinish would be a good product..comes with 933mhz processor windows 2000, 512mb ram 20gb system drive,120gb external hard drive array, mitsubishi dplus 200 monitors.. &and few other little things.. .. does this sound right??........ : My questions are...what record playback decks do you use for the VX2000 and how about nonlinear editing systems..and i can't afford avids or other high end products.. i'm looking for good quality but cheap..(3-7,000$ bracket) : I also heard that the windows 2001 will editing capability is this true? Sorry for typing so much i just have been so confused with trying to talk to salesman.. I have been researching so much on the internet and trying to gather my own thoughts. I thought I would try here. Any help would be much appreciated... : oh p.s..do you really need a UV filter for the lens of the 2000 ..I was told y&n by a few.. : Though your budget is small, you are really lacking in knowledge of the world of NLE and moving too fast can cost you. The VX2000 is a good buy for you because in addition to its qualities as a camera it can digitize your old svhs stuff for non-linear editing. It has "analog-in". Connect your vcr to its input and the camera can pass-thru and compress your svhs stuff to your hard drive as Digital Video. Next buy either Media Studio Pro 6.0 or Premiere 6 bundled with a cheap but good Pyro firewire card ($400-600). Stop spending at this point until you learn NLE and about your other options. The $89 Pyro would be your only loss if you went with a more sophisticated hardware setup.
