big grey horizontal stripes in playback??? Can't Post

i was just filming some stuff as i tried my glidecam out and i played it back, and there were about 4 or 5 thick horizontal stripes running across the lcd screen, i kepts playing and then they faded away and some parts of the picture was distorted with large pixels, but now it seems fine. anybody know what this was, dirty heads? i have a wedding comming up and if this is a problem i gotta get it fixed now.

That was the classic transient head clog. May never happen again.

Head clogs are not all that uncommon with DV equipment. Some folks never get one. Because the head gap is so tiny in DV recorders, the tinyest piece of crud can cause a clog. Like you experienced, most head clogs are very temporary in nature, most will clear by just continuing to run a tape - either in rec or play (or cue FF or RR). Those that stick around longer can be cleared, most times, by a cleaning tape. The worst one's result from swaping tape brands and those may need a professional cleaning or actual head replacement to fix. Stick to a single brand tape and don't loose any sleep over it. Sony is by far the best quality DV tape with the fewest reported problems of any kind. But stay with whatever brand you have been using. If you want to switch brands, do a full tape path manual cleaning first ( best left to a qualified tech or shop)
