As the CCD chips in the DCR-VX2000 are twice as sensitive as those in its predecessor, the DCR-VX1000, clear images are able to be rendered in low light conditions using only a minimum of gain. The reduction in gain required has led to a dramatic improvement in the S/N ratio, 2dB in normal light and 6dB in low light when compared to the DCR-VX10000. This means that shooting in low light is rarely a problem and that clear, crisp images are readily obtainable down to the amazing minimum illumination level of only 2 lux.

The VX-2000/PD-150 also has a bigger lens, approximately one f stop bigger from what I have read. One f stop will let twice as much light in through the lens. This is significant toward shooting in low light conditions. The CCD chips and bigger lens make for an awesome picture in low light without the grain experienced with cameras like the TRV-900. The VX-2000/PD-150 is the storm chaser camera of choice.--Jim
