what function do you turn on to have the date/time recorded on the tape. need to know for a video deposition. thanks

Hi Judy,
Sorry to be the one to tell you but being a "prosumer" camcorder the VX2000 does not have the time and date stamp capability that the "professional" line of Sony Cameras has, such as the older PD150 and the newer PD170.

The date and time are stamped on tape. Open the fold out lcd screen and press the data code button (located underneath the "display" button). This will give you the date and time when the footage was shot (make sure that you have set the correct date and time). Press the data code button again and it will display more data relevant to when the footage was shot; auto or manaul, shutter speed and aperture. This data will not transfer to your pc within an avi file, and I'm not sure if you can physically make this data display as nomenclature visible on the video avi file.
