first time problem with vx-1000 Can't Post

Hello, I've had a problem with my vx-1000 that just popped up. I've had the camera since 1996, bought new. Relatively low hours, about 250. I was taping saturday, no problems. I powered off and later powered the camera back on. The power did come back on, but the view-finder was totally black. I still tried to record to see if recording was still working, but it was not. Anyone point me in a good direction to see what the problem might be?
Thanks
