lp mode on vx1000 Can't Post

i shot an event today and the client who hired me handed me a dv tape that he had blacked in lp mode (little did i know that the vx1000 does not record in lp mode it only plays back in lpmode) i shot the entire tape and gave it to my client i later found out that the tape was blank! has anyone else accidently shot on tape that has been blacked in lp mode. i tested the camera afterward dozens of times using both of my batteries and having it plugged in and i could not reproduce the problem. i really just want an answer and explanation for my client for what happened.
thanks in advance for comments or help you can give me

You should look elsewhere for the problem (like operator error). Just to make sure, I just duplicated your circumstances on a VX 1000 and it recorded over the LP blacked tape perfectly (in SP, of course). You either did hot press record or had the Cam in 'Photo Mode' are the most likely causes.

i pressed record in fact the other camera guy saw the red light on my camera from across the room also in photo mode it should have at least recorded something at the begining of the tape.

If you were in the 'photo mode' it still would not record anything unless you pressed the 'photo' button, pressing the red 'red/pause' button does not work in the photo mode. If your partner 'saw' your red record light on then I guess the 'boogie' or 'gremlins' is the only answer. One more thing to be certain about is - are you positive you are looking at the tape that came out of your camera and somehow didn't switch tapes?? (it has happend to me!)

I did not suggest or even consider foul play (only you could know that). I simply added that I have "lost" tapes myself, only to discover them later. Good advice here is to be absolutely certian you LABEL each tape as it comes out of the cam (or before it goes in) and move the record lock-out switch on every camera master tape as it comes out of the cam. That applies even to VHS - break out the tab as it comes out of the recorder to prevent disasters. On jobs that will use more than 1 tape I prelabel the tapes as to the event and cam and/or sequence it will be used. The little stick on numbers off of VHS tape labels are handy for numbering. If you do a lot of video then a master numbering system is a must. The DV tape labels are not big enough to list all the info on, especially if you use a single tape for several short but different projects. A master numbering system with a paper note book AND a duplicate in a computer file (MSWord file is fine) will save ulcers. You can list the tape #, and time code info as to where on the tape everything is and any other helpful info. If you reuse DV tapes (like me) you will also know how many cycles a tape has had.
