vx2000 audio - mic input - question? Can't Post

when i plug in an external microphone into the mic jack, and moniter the audio with headphones i can only hear auido in one ear, and it only records in one speaker, but works fine when just using the stock mic on the camera. how can i get audio in both speakers? does this happen with everyone else?

Sounds like you are using a mono mike. Nothing wrong with that. Most mikes are mono. If you want two tracks you can always copy the mono track onto the other channel in post.

Rick's suggestion is really the easiest. But if you are serious about external audio, then you might want to consider one of the XLR adapters. I use the Beach Tek and it has a mono switch that will do what you are after.

It will run you about $170, but it is truely one of the best upgrades you can do for your VX2K. I've become so dependent on mine that I never take it off the camera.

Video University offers the XLR PRO. Check out this link...

You might also want to try a simple mono to stereo mini-plug. You can pick one up at Radio Shack. Spencer is right about the XLR adapter. If you plan on using a mike at any distance from the camera you want balanced audio which the XLR adapter will give you.

On the other hand unless you don't plan on doing any editing, mixing the channels in post is still the easist alternative and doesn't require any hardware.
