vx2000 seems very sensitive to high humidity Can't Post

Hello,

I have been using a Sony vx2000 to shoot Friday night football games in Ohio.
When its very damp and cool on the playing field, about once or twice during the game when I go to record the next play, I get a yellow x and it says cleaning cassette. If I stop and start again it records fine. The picture playback during the error message has alot of dropouts. I am using Maxell Tapes. I since have tried wrapping it up in plastic but last Friday night it did it again and today when the weather was warm but humid, it did it 3 times while shooting outside.
Is this something that is going to become a bigger problem eventually? I had sent it to Sony earlier this year with a tension problem and it cost over $500.
Any advice or hearing about similiar experience is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Kevin

I haven't heard any problems like this due to humidity. Normally, if there are no drastic temp changes the humidity isn't a problem. When you run into problems is when you put a warm camera into the cold so condensation collects, and vice-versa. As long as you already have the camera at the "outdoor" temperature level you shouldn't have that problem. I'm not sure where to go with this one. Maybe someone else has some ideas?

Have you done a head cleaning at all?

There is absolutely no problem with a warm cam going into the cold, that is exactly how to avoid any hint of condensation. Only the "vice-versa" applies – cold cam into warm and humid conditions. But I bet if you drop the cheap tape in favor of Sony tape your problems will disappear.
