vx 1000 x pd 170? Can't Post

Hi, use a vx 1000 for 7 years, and always compare the image quality with the new models (pd 150/170), but i donīt see any diference.
Except in the low light, but in the general the image seems the same.
Anybody knows if the pd 170 campare whit vx 1000 (back light, crhoma, or other itens) is the realy best??
The change (vx 1000- pd 170)is necessary ?
thanks.

if possible, I would keep the vx1000 and get the pd170. Both camera's have their pros and cons but when added together the cons list is almost gone. I don't know if that makes sense, I'm just saying the +'s and -'s will even out.

The PD170 picture quality has definitely better colors and is sharper than the VX1000. The VX1000 tends to be a little reddish while the 170 has more naturally saturated colors. Also, one big thing is that the picture noise is much more visible in the VX1000 than the 170 even in good lighting. You can see this by observing the picture specially for intense colors like deep blue and yellow and of course red. Also, in harsh sunlight, the VX1000 is more contrasty than the 170. That mean the 1000 offers less detail in the highlights and shadow areas. The introduction of Hyper Had chips starting with the 2000, PD150 and later with the 2100 and 170, made a noticeable improvement in picture quality when comparing to the early DV models.

Also, when comparing cameras you have to compare the cameras in multitude of situations and not just putting both cameras side by side in a given lighting situation. It is only then when you start seeing major differences.

This is not to say that the VX1000 is a great camera. I loved it when I first had it. But then there were better cameras introduced and I could not resist making the upgrade. It was worth it.

When I got my PD150 several years ago I set up my VX1000 and my then new PD150 on tripods pointing at the same scene and connected them to a monitor. I could see a significant difference in the image quality even if full daylight. The lense quality and the electronics are simply better on the PD150 and at least to me the difference is striking. When I use botht e VX1000 and the PD150 on a multicamera shoot I have to be very careful with color correction to be able to match the footage between the two cameras. And let's not talk about low light performance. The 150 nearly sees in the dark while the VX1000 is horrible in low light.

The PD150 is IMHO a huge improvement (audio notwithstanding) over the VX1000. I understand the PD170 is even better.
