The custom pre-set is the heart of the camera. For the best picture quality it is a must.

Set your sharpness to 3/4.

Color one notch to the left.......stops the oversaturation.

MAKE SURE that when you leave the Custom mode that it is set to ON......you will observe CP in the EVF and LCD screen.

Lou, can these recommendations be used on the PD170 also. And by setting sharpness to 3/4, do you mean 3/4 of the way to the maximum sharpness setting? Thanks for the tip!

I use the VX-2000, but assume settings are the same...I have the "AGC" set to 12 - at receptions, I can leave Exposure on AUTO and it will never go above 12 and get grainy. You can still switch Exposure to manual at any time and do what you want with it, but it's nice to not have it jumping to 15 or 18 whenever it wants!

Lou,

You never responded to the question about the sharpness. It it 3/4 of the way to the left or to the right. If you could, could you just tell us how many clicks from the center, right or left. Thanks!

Also, the Sony's tend to be a little bit red in color. Does bringing the color level down as you suggested cool this down a bit or do you suggest shifting the White Balance shift a click left towards the blue as well?

Any information is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

3/4 the way to the right. Lower the color to eliminate some of the redness. AND......always WB in manual under low light condtions. This will do away with much of the redness. You will see an improvement in your camera. I only shift the hue to match my JVC camera.

Hope this helps.
