Aquiring music for videos Can't Post

I am new to mini DV filming and got stuck on how to get music legally and very inexpensively for my first filming. Any suggestions?

Re: Aquiring music for videos Can't Post

Here are two suggestions (depending on what kind of music you want):
1. Find a local garage band or perhaps one who has its first cd already but needs the exposure for their original music and ask them to sign a release. The release will say they own all rights to the music (both the writing and the performance) and that you have permission to rerecord for your purposes. Do a search for "sample music release" and you'll probably find one you can modify.
2. Have students create their own music using a program such as Fruity Loops. Again, use a search for "music loops" or "Fruity Loops" to learn about this.

Another source: Do a Web search on "buyout music" or "royalty free music". You'll find a host of sites that sell individual tracks or whole CD collections of every type of music. Music Bakery, Crank City Music, and Music2Hues are just a few of the potential sources.
Buyout music will run maybe about $50 - 100 per CD or so.

http://www.apple.com/soundtrack/

As a composer I think that this might be the best sneak version of getting an "original" soundtrack. Sounds reasonable to me and I might just get it when the customer don't have the funding for music.

I have used a lot of "canned" music but I have found that it almost never does the job well.

I do not know if you use Win or Mac but there might just be software like it on Win if that is what you use.

http://www.soundclick.com some very good musicians with samples of there wares, and many are available for licensing, and I would be many would be happy just to have a film/video credit.

Bill, I see no mention of being able to license music on the soundclick.com site.
Have you ever licensed any music from them.

Thanks,

Re: [MLiebergot] Aquiring music for videos [In reply to] Can't Post

It's on an individual basis. when you see the artist's tunes listed, there will be, near the middle, before the lofi, hifi, or mp3 link, a link that says "license." not all artists do, but some would love it. ;-)
even if they don't have it up for licensing, you can always ask.
