Re: Bying a DVD Burner--Help

Hello again Ryan, What do you mean by "live video"? The "mosaic like picture" you are talking about sounds like typical compression artifacting. Be aware that some video is easier to encode than others, lots of movement combined with a high level of detail can really make encoding tough sometimes, even for DVD. I've never done XVCD, but if your bitrate is any indication, you should notice a big improvement with DVD. The best SVCD I ever made wasn't really close to what I'm now doing with DVD. As I recall you mentioned that you were using ULead. Unfortunately, I'm not very familiar with it. But if you have a software DVD player, why don't you see if you can use ULead to build yourself a test DVD to a folder on your hard drive. That way, you can test quality without ever burning a DVD disc. As far as burners go, I'm using a Pioneer A05 (DVD-R) on one machine, and a NEC ND1100A (DVD+R) on another. But these days I'd check out one of the many dual format burners that are available. In general I'd suggest you stick with a "name-brand" burner and media. "Set-top" player compatibility is the name of the game here. It can be touchy thing, and hardware is the last area you want to have a problem. ...gotta admit I was a little tempted to try the $59 burner special I saw at Office Max a couple of weeks ago. ...only tempted a little though. Spence : I have been burning my video's on XVCD and loving it but I cannont convert live video on very clear. I see mosiac-like picture and I am converting at 2300kbps. Is a DVD burner better and if so, what are the concerns I need to look for in using one. If I buy one, what kind should I get. THanks for your help.
