Can someone help me with my Mac? Can't Post

Using a Mac G4 with OSX.2.6
I downloaded an mp4 file of the animated butterfly sample that someone posted. I saved it to my desktop, watched it, and then tried to throw it away. I get this message:
Preparing move to "Trash" above the horizontal rolling candy cane and a yellow triangle with an exclamaiton point in it, followed by "The item "butterfly.mp4" is being used by another task right now. (Other tasks include moving, copying, or emptying the trash.) Try again when the other task is complete."
As far as I can tell non of those three tasks are taking place, I have adjusted the Ownership and Permissions a variety of different ways, I have locked the file and unlocked the file, I have changed the name of the file, tried varying extensions, and I still can't throw it away! I've even tried saving a file from another program to over write it and I get a message about me not having "access priviledges."
The movie was ok but now I WANT TO GET RID OF IT!!! aaaarrrrrggghh!
Thanks for any help.

It's probably in more than one location. Use Sherlock and find all references to the file you need to trash. Move all those files to trash.

and I still can't throw it away! I've even tried saving a file from another program to over write it and I get a message about me not having "access priviledges."

I had the same problem with and AVI file.
What I did was to change the extension of the file to .txt (a text file)
Open it up in TextEdit and save. (It says do you want to replace existing file) yes.
Then move it to the trash can this should solve your problem..
