what video equipment do you already have? As to hook up to an existing cable system you can use a cable channel modulator to insert your video on your system. you can do it fairly cheap or spend a bundle. You will need a few other pieces of equipment depemding on what you have and what you want to accomplish both audio and video wise. As you may well know salesreps will sell you the moon if they can.

I operate a closed circuit system in a high school. To program student videos we use a Leightronics TCD R/P system scheduled with WIN TCD software. It runs great but it will set you back about $10k. You could try some grants. Or, you could just buy a Sony 100 DVD disk juke box and burn your programming onto DVD and set the box to random. Thats what a friend of mine does at his high school. There are some options for you. check our station out at:

Mark,
One of the first options I suggest checking out is to review the contract your local Cable TV provider has with the municipality. Some contract are well written and include the provision that the CATV provider must supply local schools with cabling to all classrooms. You can sometimes even get them to include a modulator to enable you to broadcast your local programming over the school network.
You will likely need a notch filter that will subtract a specific channel/frequency from their array of channels enabling you to insert yours into the system.
Another recommendation if #1 is not feasible, ask several local telecomm contractors to bid on what you want so you can see the range of solutions - make certain you specify presicely what you want as sometimes folks not used to a school put in the bid unpractical sollutions.
You are welcome to email me directly if you wish further info (I too am in the SF Bay Area).
Regards,
Chet
