For Video Production Teachers: A High School Textbook Can't Post

Hello fellow educators,

I told Hal I'd let people know about the progress on publishing my textbook. The Title of the book is Television Production by Phillip L. Harris. The ISBN# is 1-59070-454-1. The publisher is Goodheart-Willcox and you can reach them at www.Goodheart-Willcox.com . Click on the blue Technical Trades catelog and then click on "Browse by Author." Click on "H" and my text is the first one that comes up.

My editor and I put the finishing touches on the last chapter of the book last week and the entire book is at "layout" as of yesterday - March 2, 2005. I'm told from here on out things move very quickly. We've now also finished the first 7 chapters of the Instructor's manual. Everything will be available for the Fall semester of '05.

Many of the teachers who regularly read postings on this site have contacted me about the book's availability date. Thank all of you for contacting Goodheart-Willcox to indicate your interest in the text. That interest had great influence on their decision to embark on publishing the text.

I have taught television production on the high school level since 1974 and have always been looking for a text that is written on the level of understanding of a high school student who is seriously interested in television production as a career. Everything I found was either written on a consumer level and of little value or so complex that it had to be watered down for use in high school. I had spent so much time creating my own materials that the students would be able to understand that I finally put them all together into a text. I hope those of you looking for a text for your classes will find it useful.

Re: [Phil Harris] For Video Production Teachers: A High School Textbook [In reply to] Can't Post

Congratulations, Phil! I know the writing and editing process must be grueling and I, for one, can't wait to see the end product. You're right that a good high school text is needed not only for the students but for teachers, like me, who have a journalism background and now also need to teach the production skills and new technology. I would imagine your text will be an excellent fit for teachers with little or no actual industry experience and those WITH industry experience will appreciate that they have one which helps them deliver important lessons with the right approach and degree of difficulty. A good high school production text will be a wonderful tool. I look forward to having it in my hands soon.
