Use one VCR as your player and one VCR as your record. On the back of your VCR (somtimes the front) there are inputs and outputs sometimes color coded yellow, red and white. You need to go to radio shack and get a set of A/V editing cables. They will be color coded yellow, red, and white also. OK, now on your "Play" VCR (the one that has the original tape in it) hook up the cables to the OUTPUT. Then on your record VCR hook up the cables to your INPUT. See? What goes out must go in. Now very imp. Make sure your record VCR is in "vcr" mode (not TV) also (you might need to read the manual on this) the record VCR must be in "LINE" mode which means that the REC VCR is getting its signal from the lines/cables that you hooked up. Now what I would do is hook up a TV to the record VCR. PUt the TV on ch 3/4 whatever you are set up for and play the tape in the PLAY VCR. IF you hooked everything up right you will see the picture on the TV that is hooked up yo the REC VCR. One last thing, unless this is just prcatice, make sure your REC VCR is in SP mode instead of LP or EP. These refer to the speed the tape is recorded. SP will give you a better picture. Hope this helps, please let me know if you need more info. Manuals are invaluable in this case.

How do I put the VCR in 'LINE Mode' if there is no switch for that? [In reply to] Can't Post

I am trying to record from one VCR to another, but the instructions tell me to put the VCRin 'LINE Mode' but I need to know how to do this. I do not have any line switches on any of my VCRs.

We had the same problem. On our VCRs, the "LINE" mode can be selected by changing the channel on the VCR to "LINE" or "L1" or "L2". On both of our VCRs this was after channel 125 or before channel 1. On one of our VCRs the "LINE" mode was referred to as "LINE" the other as "L1 or L2"

Hello there, first you have to hook up your antena or cable TV to the RF input of your VCR. Then hook up the RF output of your VCR to the Antena input of your TV. You can also use the RCA output of your VCR to the input of the TV that has an RCA audio/video input. Turn on your VCR and use the VCR's channel selector to select the desired channel to record. Put a blank tape and press record to your VCR. To summarize:
Antena or CableTV ----->VCR RF input
VCR RF output ------>TV antena input
Hope this helps.

Hi steven,
I've done your instruction, and i can see the picture in the TV from play VCR and the rec VCR is also working. But when i playback the results, there is only blue picture (looks like there is no signal caught), the recording was happening, there was no signal though. Any suggestion?

Help! If anyone can answer this I need to know this by tomorrow morning! I have the old kind of vcr's with just one jack that goes to the tv instead of the A/V cables. I know how to hook-up the play vcr to the tv but I don't know where the line should go from the play vcr to what part of the record vcr? All I'm getting is a picture on the tv from the play vcr and a blank tape on the record vcr no matter how I've tried to set it up. There must be something obvious I'm missing....

I would like to copy a vcr tape from one stereo/hi fi 4 head vcr to another. Play it in one and record it on the other. It has video in/out plugs on both machines.

Re: how to prevent accidental recording over original copy [In reply to] Can't Post

if you're afraid of erasing the original copy, make sure to take the tab out of the square on the bottom left corner of the rounded end of the tape.
