Hi 8 plays back too fast Can't Post

I was recently shooting some video overseas using a Sony Handycam (that was
originally purchased in the states). When I returned to the states and tried to
playback the tape in my Hi 8 camera at home it plays back at a much faster
speed. I had the tape set to record on LP but can't figure out why it isn't
playing back at the correct speed. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
Thanks!

If the camcorder you recorded with has an "E" or "P" at the end of its model number, it is most likely a PAL camcorder, even if it was originally purchased in the U.S. PAL has a frame rate of 25 fps, compared to 29.97 fps for NTSC. If this is the problem, the best way to fix it is to find someone who can do a PAL to NTSC conversion. Many small video studios offer this service.
The other possibility is that your playback device isn't capable of LP playback. In that case, you'll have to find a different playback device.
