Hi 8 to DVD no usb??? Can't Post

Can someone tell me if there is anything that will allow me to convert Hi 8 and/or VHS-C to DVD without a USB port? I found a couple of USB to S-Video adapters but am not sure if it works good. I bought a Sony CCD-TRV308 a year ago and thought it had the USB port but found out it doesnt. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

To convert analog video to DVD using a computer is a three step process.
1. Convert the analog video to digital, usually in the DV format if you're going to edit it. If you just want to go straight to DVD, some capture cards allow you to encode directly to MPEG-2, the digital format used for DVDs. This transfer involves the use of a Firewire cable, not a USB connection, and to get to the Firewire cable, you need a DV converter box like the ADVC series sold by Canopus.
2. Once your video is digitized (and edited), transcode to MPEG-2 and import it into a DVD authoring program. Create menus and chapter buttons, etc.
3. Burn the DVD using a DVD-R or DVD+R capable drive. DVD-RAM won't play back on most set-top DVD machines.
The easy way to get around all this mess is to buy a standalone DVD recorder, such as those sold by Panasonic. They are as low as about $500 for an entry-level model, and work just like a VCR. Hook up your camcorder, put in a blank disc, hit Play and REC, and you're pretty much done.

I own the Pinacle Studio AV, (Approx. $99) it includes a Video Capture Card (PCI Slot Nessisary), and software named Studio 8. It allows you to capture the video by connecting your camcorder via either SVideo, or Composite cables to the computer. From there you can edit, and create either DVD or VCD or other types of media. It takes a little but of learning and practice but it works well especially if you have a DVD burner. Check it out at Pinaclesys.com
I also am using a SONY TRV308.
Good luck.

There's another solution: buy a tv tuner card with capture functions (svideo input). Most cards include hardware mpeg1 encode, but to encode to mpeg2 you will need a fast cpu. Just make sure you meet the requirements to do it this way.
