How to copy a VHS tape to my computer to run it on a webpage. Can't Post

I am looking for information on how to copy a VHS tape to a file on computer to run on a webpage. I presume i will need to change it to a .AVI file but i am not sure. Can anyone help with what type of program i will need and what type of hardware for my computer?

Well, if it was me, I would copy it to my DV camera using the AV jacks, then capture it to the PC over firewire, then push it thru an NLE to edit, and render it as a WMV or MOV file. HTH.

If your video card has a TV or video input capability (e.g., ATI All In Wonder models), you can use Windows Movie Maker to capture the video as an MPEG1 file, which should be small enough to put on the Web. However, the quality (and your control over it) would be much higher if you used a DV camcorder to record the material, then transferred it to the computer via a Firewire port, and compressed it for the web from there.
