Here's three ways: 1. Interviewer is the camera operator. Have the subject include your question in his/her response, so the response is a complete sentence. Example: "What's your name?" Response: NOT "Jane Doe", but "My name is Jane Doe". In editing, cut out your questions. The subject then appears to be talking directly to the viewer. 2. Interviewer off camera. Roll tape for both the questions and the answers, but keep the camera shot on the subject only. Afterwards, do a cutaway shot of the interviewer, having him ask the same questions he used in the interview (review the footage of the subject if necessary). Also, get some generic shots of the interviewer "reacting" to the subject...nodding, raising eyebrows in disbelief, whatever's appropriate. In editing, cut back and forth from the subject to the B-roll of the interviewer asking the questions. 3. Two subjects, one camera. Interviewer and subject stand or sit half facing each other. Tape the conversation between them with a stationary two-shot. Regards, Doug Graham Panda Productions
