Looking for complete multimedia terminology. Can't Post

Hello
Where can I find complete multimedia terminology? The glossary in video help website is very good but isn’t complete, for example I couldn’t find any explanation about these words; rendering, real time, clip, capture, motion card …
Can anybody help?
Thanks
Cyrus

I doubt you'll get a real consensus on what any of those words mean except for "capture", which basically means to put a video file on your computer so that it can be manipulated. Of course, the means you use to capture video can vary widely depending on a lot of different factors.

Rendering: An automated process by which the computer creates a bitmapped image or image sequence from other data. ("The computer is rendering my LightWave scene". "This video transition needs to be rendered before it will play in real time".) "Background rendering" means that the system is capable of performing rendering operations while the user continues to work on other tasks within the editing application.

Real time: Generally applied to computer processing of video. Can have several meanings; a video clip may be said to "play in real time" if it can be played back at full resolution and frame rate. A video editing program may be able to perform some editing functions in "real time", such as a transition being able to play back without first having to be rendered.

Clip: What the manufacturers of software do to their customers. What a barber does to your hair. Or, a segment of digital video. A "clip" may be the entire digital video file, or it may be a small portion of the total file, generally represented in an editing program as a bar on a timeline, or an icon in a storyboard or file bin.

Capture: What the Army would like to do to Osama bin Laden. Transferring a digital video file from tape to the computer's hard drive.

Motion card: An auxiliary circuit card which supplements the computer's processing power. Allows more "real time" functions when editing video.

And I can think of several different alternatives to your definitions. It all depends on the context in which it's being used, the way it's being used, and the soft/hardware being used.
