Vector Scope/Waveform Can't Post

Hello,
I've found a very helpful tutorial (on this site) on "How to use color bars". Where can I find a similar tutorial on how to use a vector scope/waveform monitor. As I know that this will be more complex than color bars, if there's a really good primer on the issue of "vector scope/waveform" this would help a great deal.
Thank you in advance!

Re: Vector Scope/Waveform Can't Post

I've been looking for the same thing.
I can tell you what little I know (very little, in this case)
- You generally use the WFM/VS in conjunction with a signal generator. This tool generates SMPTE color bars, and a number of other test patterns. This method is used to check the signal path in your studio, to make sure that if good video goes in one end, the same good video comes out the other.
- The VS is not much use (to me, anyway) with a "live" TV signal. With color bars, it's easy to see if the little dots (representing the individual colors) fall within their target boxes. If not, your signal needs to be adjusted.
- The WFM is very useful with a live signal to check IRE levels. Use it while adding color correction to make sure you stay within legal limits.
Regards,
Doug Graham

Re: Vector Scope/Waveform - Here's the article you requested [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Andrea,
I'm glad you liked our article on color bars. I also have one on Video Engineering entitled "Engineering Primer" This one covers the waveform and vectorscope. I hope you find it helpful.
It's always been listed in our Free Library, but did not have Waveform in the title which is probably why you missed it.
