I've been looking for the same thing. I can tell you what little I know (very little, in this case) - You generally use the WFM/VS in conjunction with a signal generator. This tool generates SMPTE color bars, and a number of other test patterns. This method is used to check the signal path in your studio, to make sure that if good video goes in one end, the same good video comes out the other. - The VS is not much use (to me, anyway) with a "live" TV signal. With color bars, it's easy to see if the little dots (representing the individual colors) fall within their target boxes. If not, your signal needs to be adjusted. - The WFM is very useful with a live signal to check IRE levels. Use it while adding color correction to make sure you stay within legal limits.
