Videography Can't Post

Trying to find out how to become a videographer. Are the licensing requirements, degree plans, tech schools. I am interested in outdoor video productions. Any help would be appreciated...

: Trying to find out how to become a videographer.
1. Buy, borrow, or rent a camcorder.
2. Shoot video with it.
When you've done it enough to get good, presto! You're a videographer.
If you want professional training, do a web search for "film school". There are several reputable outfits, for example Full Sail. School is a nice credential, and it will give you a great opportunity to network and to build a demo reel. But what will get you jobs isn't the degree...it's your demo reel.

Re: Videography [In reply to] Can't Post

The preto didn't happen for me until after I started listening to people who watched my videos. I thought my first attempts were fine until I watched them with my wife and she kept complaining about them. Also, watch TV and copy what they do. Read books on video production and movie making. I have become aware of the way good TV uses each shot to tell the story. They cut it down to just the essential information and then move on. The worst thing you can do is bore the audience.

Regarding Full Sail: I've sent many many students there over the years but none in the last 4 years. No particular reason why - just that none of my kids elected to go there. A fellow teacher suggested I look at the following site: www.fullsailsucks.com. I did. Even if you throw away 95% of teh stuff on this site as being the typical bellyaching of students about their school -- any school that makes them work, the 5% that is left is pretty damning. I would certainly check out what the Florida government thinks of the school as well as the souther accreditation organization. Just a heads up.
Knowing that the site exists, I would think the school would step up to the plate and address publicly some of the issues mentioned on this site. If anyone knows a place where these issues are addressed specifically by the school, please post the site.
The school's main site is a terrific piece of advertising material but in light of the comments on the "sucks" site, I would have many many questions before investing the significant monies that this school requires.
