You must convert the video and audio from the VCR into digital data. This can be done with a conversion box, such as the ADVC series sold by Canopus, or you can buy a capture card that has the ability to accept analog signals, such as the ACEDVio card, again from Canopus. If you don't use an analog capture card, your computer will need to be equipped with an IEEE 1394, or "Firewire" or "iLink" port (all different names for the same thing).

To store the high quality digital video from the converter box or the capture card, you'll need lots of hard drive space, 3.5 GB for each minute of captured video. A second hard drive, separate from your C: drive, is recommended.

For some reason 3.5GB/minute sounds like a lot. I've done a 30 minute production (24 min with breaks) and the whole file was only 5 something GB's. This is DV .avi files, however.

My bad. 3.5 megabytes per second, or 219 MB/minute, 12.6 GB/hr. for DV.

That's what happens when your brain becomes more than a half century old. Senior moments. Wink

That's OK, though. It's better than the alternative. Sneaking up on it myself. Matter of fact, just got my first Bifocals. Only had them a week. Boy, really scared myself a few times. Like, the first time I went to the men's room with them on . . . Woah! What's that!

Anyway, you still have a great face for radio . . .

Gee, thanks! At least, I have the VOICE for radio to go along with the ugly mug. Or so I've been told.
