: Hey there, : Please help! : I would like to know how I can successfully edit camcorder footage already filmed? Specifically, using background music and editing scenes? : Thanks...jib : Because you don’t say if you can do it using a computer or not, I will walk you through a simple manual set up without transitions. ·The Equipment needed to make a simple set up is a source (VCR) deck, a recording (VCR) deck, audio mixer, CD player and TV and source camcorder. ·Connect your camcorder video & audio lines to the “in” lines of the VCR that you select to be your source deck. That is the one that you will do your edits on. ·Source VCR “out” video line to record VCR “in” video line. ·Source VCR “out” audio lines to audio mixer. ·Audio mixer “out” lines to record VCR “in” audio lines. ·CD audio “out” lines to audio mixer’s “in” lines. ·Record VCR to TV. There are more complicated setups with a preview TV and video mixers, professional decks, etc.; but I’m going to use KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid). Now that you are all set up, turn everything on. Review from your camcorder the tape to be edited. Make notes on cuts you wish to edit out. When completed, put a blank tape into the source deck and select the 2-hour recording mode. Hit record and record the full 2 hours on the blank tape. What I use to do is put my dust cover over my camcorder lens, remove my videocassette, put it in the record mode, and record the black footage to the VCR tape. This prepares your tape. Rewind the tape, play at least 60 seconds (1 min.), and then press "pause" and “record”. Now start your source camcorder and using your edit list start your camcorder and hit the VCR “pause” button to start recording. Pause to cut out unwanted footage. Once this has been completed, rewind the tape and now you’re ready for the next step, adding background music. Set up the record deck as you did the source deck to record. Set up your music in your CD player to “pause” mode. Start your source deck tape and use that 1 min. lead in before hitting the record VCR “pause” button and the CD player “pause” button to record both source & music audio to your recorder deck videotape. You should be seeing and hearing end results on the TV monitor. You may want to start your music and video 10 seconds or so before you start recording scene footage. Hope that this helps. Tom
