I can add a couple to your contest list. One is the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Journalism Award. This national contest has professional as well as college and high school divisions. The site is www.rfkmemorial.org. The second is the Student Television Network. This organization will hold its third annual convention in California in January. Over 1200 students from 32 states attended last year. They offer on-site as well as mail in contests. Student crews bring their own gear and have a few hours to produce music videos, video essays, PSA's, stand-up's and anchor samples from topics they haven't seen until the contest. For the mail-in contests in the past, the students would receive a broad feature story theme via e-mail and have only a few days to have their finished product postmarked back to the judges. I encourage all teachers to check out their website at www.studenttelevision.com and plan to attend next year. And then of course, various scholastic journalism organizations sponsor broadcasting competitions. I've worked particularly with the Journalism Education Association and the Southern Interscholastic Press Association, but I'm sure each region has its own. Janet Kerby, NBCT
